Dowagiac city flag

The Dowagiac city flag

In 2022, in celebration of its 145th anniversary, the City of Dowagiac unveiled a design for its first city flag.

The flag is full of elements important to our city. Dowagiac is known for its dogwood trees; a flower is at the foreground. The circle in the center of the four petals reflects Dowagiac’s location at the juncture of Silver Creek, Wayne, Pokagon, and LaGrange Townships.

The four-pointed orange compass star behind the dogwood flower represents an important element of Dowagiac’s history and industry — the Michigan Central Railroad, the Colby Mill, Round Oak Stove Company, and Heddon Lures.

The blue circle represents the Dowagiac River, Dowagiac Creek, Mill Pond, and the Great Lakes. The green background color was chosen to be green as a symbol of the agricultural roots of the area. Read more about the background of the flag here.
